I am, no question, living the fantasy life for a middle-aged middle-class New Zealander. I have now swapped my adorable inner-city Edwardian cottage for a semi-rural lifestyle block, one hour away from the city. There’s about 5 acres of hillside paddock and 10 acres of regenerating native bush. I have a badly trained labradoodle puppy and a double garage under the house that is now My Workshop for all things art. And now … now I also have five alpaca to eat the grass. Alpaca are the easiest of all livestock for a novice farmleteer they say. We’ll see, but they are darn photogenic. This is Evie, the oldest, greediest and therefore most friendly of the girls.
Don’t be allamaed (and all the other puns)
