Just drawing people

Because people are the most interesting thing to draw, right?

Live people to draw can be hard to find when you’re in a small semi-rural town. As an alternative I’m finding regular Draw Brighton sessions via zoom a very relaxing start to the day (in NZ summer, they happen at 7am or 8am). There are longish portraits one day, life drawing with very professional models often in fancy sets and costumes another day. All good, but the most delightful is the quick one hour session on (for me) Friday morning. We divide into small groups and take turns posing for 10 minutes each, often with an optional task like ‘wear a hat’ or ‘draw with a material you don’t usually use’. Pure fun, gently social, very international, and even my inner critic has to shut up because how good can you be in 10 minutes. Well, actually, some of the other people are very very good, but shut up inner critic, it’s still a good time.

When I’m in the UK later this year I hope to attend some of their in-real-life sessions, if I make it as far as Brighton.
